Free Insider Trading Resource: Have you ever received a ‘hot tip’ from a friend or family member on a stock they said was gonna be “the next Microsoft?”
Who hasn’t, right?
Tips like these have been passed around like a hand-me-down jacket.
Personally, I’ve lost track of how many rumors I’ve heard over the years about how someone who knows someone else knows a friend that has insider knowledge that a company’s stock is on the verge of exploding… oh, and we’re all gonna get rich… but only if we buy some right away.
Of course, there’s no way of verifying whether these rumors are true unless the information is made public.
Warren Buffett was once asked why he never left Omaha for New York; the center of the stock market universe and the hub of the rumor mill. His response was, “With enough inside information and a million dollars you can go broke inside a year.”
While I can’t say that any of the ‘hot tips’ I’ve received from personal contacts over the years have panned out for me as of yet, there IS however some validity to the assumption that you can gain an edge with the right kind of insider information.
No, I’m not talking about the kinda stuff that’ll turn you into the star of your own illegal insider trading debacle, like the ones you hear about in the news. I’m referring to the legitimate SEC filings of corporate insiders and hedge fund managers that are made available publicly.
Until recently, it hasn’t been realistically possible to keep track of insider buying and selling transactions, but a free online resource has changed all that.
